Now that the holiday season is winding down, it’s time to carefully review credit card statements and protect yourself, as unfortunately, criminals may try to steal credit card and personal information. Many of us used credit cards to purchase gifts during this holiday season.

I read an article in “Consumer Reports” that was beyond belief regarding payday lenders and the excessive rates they are allowed to charge a customer is in need of money until his or her next payday.

Thank you to all the concerned folks who have participated in the public hearings regarding the adoption of a consolidation plan for the towns of Damariscotta, Newcastle, Bristol, South Bristol, Nobleboro, Jefferson, Edgecomb, Bremen, Southport, Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor. After attending three of the hearings, it seemed to me that there was some confusion about the purpose of the vote on Jan. 27.
