This letter is in response to an amazing act of kindness and Christmas spirit our family received.

First, this year has been a hard year financially. We know that we are not the only family that has struggled to make ends meet.

Douglass Wright (LCN 12/11) tries to defend his advocacy for homosexual marriage.

In Sebastian Junger’s book, “The Perfect Storm,” he accomplished the virtuoso feat of making the science behind the weather enjoyable reading for the laymen. What Hollywood depicted as one big storm, Junger turned into a fascinating character study of wind and weather.

This letter is for some of our friends who pointed out that the caption under our daughter’s wedding announcement photo (Lincoln County News, Dec. 18) noted three names, but only two people were pictured. (“Mr. & Mrs. LeBlanc and Hannah MacKenzie”).

At the Dec. 18 [Waldoboro] selectmen’s board meeting, I heard something that stunned me. The town is currently paying $1300 a month per employee for family healthcare coverage. That’s $15,600 a year – the equivalent of the entire year’s wages of someone earning $8 an hour!

I wanted to publicly thank “Chris and his Crew” for having the Spirit of Christmas in their hearts the day after the big storm on Monday.

Crossing the bridge this morning I was sadly surprised to see the swags and wreaths were made of fake fir.

On Dec. 16, Gov. Baldacci released his supplemental budget proposal to cover the approximately $140 million shortfall in Fiscal Year 2009.

On Dec. 1, Waldoboro’s Soule Shuman Memorial VFW Post, hosted a very success bingo and benefit for the Kevin Murray Memorial Fund.

Although there is a nice wide ramp at the Newcastle Post Office, it is not entirely or easily accessible for those who are wheelchair-bound.

In 1967 when I was at Moscow University, some Soviet students decorated their dorm rooms with pictures of slain U.S. President John F. Kennedy, despite the fact that our two countries were then locked in Cold War confrontation.

In The Lincoln County News edition of Oct. 23, a front page article was entitled “Damariscotta Selectmen Removes Pinkham as Chairman”.

I wanted to take the time now that the election has passed to thank all of the people who volunteered on my campaign for State Senate. To begin, I want to thank my wife, Pam, whose support and patience during the campaign season kept me going.
