At the Dec. 18 [Waldoboro] selectmen’s board meeting, I heard something that stunned me. The town is currently paying $1300 a month per employee for family healthcare coverage. That’s $15,600 a year – the equivalent of the entire year’s wages of someone earning $8 an hour!

The two letters condemning Rev. Jon Vermillion’s letter supporting the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman is a sad commentary on how far we have fallen in our relationship with God.

I read a terrific article in Forbes by Helman and Bogan, about a wildcatter named Rod Lewis that, believe it or not, is the only gringo allowed to drill in Mexico.

Great Expectations?

In 1967 when I was at Moscow University, some Soviet students decorated their dorm rooms with pictures of slain U.S. President John F. Kennedy, despite the fact that our two countries were then locked in Cold War confrontation.
