Four Lincoln County wrestlers finished their respective seasons with strong performances in the State Girls Wrestling Championships in Farmington today.
Wiscaset Boys Wrap Up Season At 17-1, MVC Runners-Up To Dirigo
Wiscasset High School boys’ basketball team wrapped up their MVC season with a 58-47 win over Winthrop Friday night.
Wiscasset Boys Advance To West C Semifinals
Wiscasset jumped on Winthrop early in a Western Maine Class C quarterfinal match-up at the Augusta Civic Center Monday night. Wiscasset dominated the boards (39-23) and held a double-digit lead from the first period, in a game never contested by the Ramblers. Wiscasset led 17-6 at the quarter, 32-16 at the half, 44-29 at the end of three, before going on to win 60-38.
Genthner And Juchnik Take 3rd, Morkeski 4th In State Class B Wrestling
Medomak Valley junior Steven Genthner placed third in the 145-pound weight class, Lincoln Academy junior Derek Juchnik placed third at 135 pounds, and LA senior Jesse Morkeski placed fourth at 189 pounds in the State Class B wrestling championships on Feb. 7 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Medomak Grounds The Eagles, Advance To Bangor
Medomak Valley boys’ basketball team crushed Erskine Academy 47-28 on Feb. 11 in East Class B preliminary action at Medomak. The win earns the Panthers a berth in the East B tournament at the Bangor Auditorium. The Panthers out rebounded the Eagles 37-18 in the win.

Wiscasset and Lincoln Academy swimmers traveled to UMO this week for the Class B State championships. The top eight swimmers in each event collected medallions, and the ninth to 16th places collected ribbons.

Lincoln Boys Fall To Falmouth
After a one-year absence, Lincoln Academy boys’ basketball team made a short run in the West Class B playoffs at the Portland Expo. The Valentine’s Day match-up with Falmouth was not very sweet for the Eagles, who lost 68-42 in a lopsided quarterfinal game. Falmouth jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead, and led 29-18 at the half and 53-32 at the end of three. Falmouth was the third seed, and Lincoln the seventh seed.

PI Eliminate Lady Panthers
Third seeded Presque Isle eliminated the Lady Panthers from the East Class B tournament Friday night in Bangor, 62-34. Medomak led briefly in the first quarter when Danielle Dyer settled a three in the opening minutes. The hot shooting Wildcats of Presque Isle rattled off 10 straight points to take the lead for good.
Louis Doe Home Center Is Weigh Station For Statewide Ice Fishing Derby
Louis Doe Home Center in Newcastle has been designated as one of the 22 weigh stations for the 2009 Maine Chevrolet Statewide Ice Fishing Derby. The derby will be held Sat.-Sun., March 7, 8 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Medomak Middle School Grade 8 Boys Advance To Busline Finals
Medomak Middle School Grade 8 boys’ basketball team defeated Boothbay 48-45 to advance to the Busline League Championships, to be held Wed., Feb. 4 at Medomak Middle School at 5:45 p.m.
Wells Ends Lady Eagles’ Quest
Eighth seed Wells jumped out to an 11-0 lead over ninth seed Lincoln Academy girls in West Class B preliminary action in Wells Feb. 11, and held on for a 44-36 win.
