Jeffrey Sprague ran away with the Alvin Sproul Samoset 10K on Sunday in a time of 34:18, beating nearest competitor Gunther Wolff by over four minutes.

Sam Martin won the Jefferson Day 5K on Saturday in a time of 18:25, beating out Dustin Walters by 1:24. Nikki Leeman, 17 of Round Pond, was the female winner in 22:02, beating out Amy Dominick by over three minutes. The race was sponsored by Troop 216 Boy Scouts.

There are currently no hiking trails on the 50-acre John and Peg Sproul Preserve in Bristol. Laura Sproul Stubbs donated the preserve to the Damariscotta River Association in 2008 by in honor of her parents, John and Peg.

The 23rd annual Merritt Brackett Lobster Boat Races were held in John’s Bay off Fort William Henry on Sunday under warm sunny skies and on calm waters. This year’s race was dedicated in memory of Pemaquid Co-op lobsterman Albert Westhaver.

Waldoboro Recreation Department’s Adult Coed Softball League kicked off its fifth season in scorching temperatures on Aug 16. With over 220 participants on 14 teams, this is the largest coed softball league on the Midcoast.
