I have a great idea!
A former Lincoln County Animal Shelter staffer recently visited the shelter and took our Rufus for a long, long walk. He was tired out when he got back to the shelter. The walker was a former kennel worker, Jake. Jake is now training dogs in southern Maine. By the time Rufus and Jake returned from their walk, Rufus had already begun to learn to heel.
Recently, a wonderful donor, after reading about Rufus in The Lincoln County News, sent a check for his adoption fee if anyone wanted him. Rufus was too much for this donor to handle.
Then I had the great idea! What if a trainer out there wanted to train Rufus? What if this wonderful dog whisperer made a living training dogs and could not just volunteer his or her time?
What if a generous dog lover read this plea in “All Four Feet” on this month’s Pet Page, and were willing to donate monies for a trainer for Rufus?
Of course, there are many large dogs at the shelter that need homes, but if you would adopt Rufus, my column could focus on another dog-in-waiting.
One may say I’m like the proverbial dog with a bone, but I can’t let go until we find Rufus a home. He will have been at the shelter for two years this fall.
A trainer for Rufus – please won’t you help us?
