Jonathan L. LaRose, 37, of Alna, faces a felony theft charge after allegedly stealing a safe containing $14,000 from his former girlfriend and using some of the money to buy crack cocaine and heroin.
A Lincoln County Superior Court grand jury indicted LaRose Sept. 12 on charges of Class B theft by unauthorized taking and Class C violation of condition of release.
According to court documents, LaRose denied taking any money from the safe, which a sheriff’s deputy found in his garage.
He later admitted to taking $300 from the safe to buy crack cocaine and heroin, according to a statement by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Det. Ronald Rollins.
LaRose is currently free on a Volunteers of America supervised bail contract and $2500 unsecured bail.
