Investigators are examining causes for the blaze that overtook a house on Brooks Lane in Waldoboro in the early morning hours of Feb. 19. Ken Grimes of the State Fire Marshall’s Office said the fire was intentionally set.
Detective Lance Mitchell of the Waldoboro Police Dept. said the home, owned by Wells Fargo Bank was unoccupied when firefighters and other emergency personnel made it to the fiery scene shortly after the 911 emergency call at 1:50 a.m.
No injuries were reported as a result of the structure fire, which was said to be fully involved at the time of the call.
“It was very slippery,” said Waldoboro firefighter John Blodgett. “The visibility wasn’t that good, either.”
Waldoboro and Nobleboro fire departments had to use four-wheel drive trucks to get to the scene. The Bremen Fire Dept. also responded, while Bristol Fire provided station support for Bremen.
Blodgett confirmed conditions in the early morning hours in this cold weather climate made the work of emergency personnel and firefighters challenging, adding that he thought the fire was suspicious in nature.
Grimes said the Fire Marshall’s Office does not have any leads at this time, but the case is still under investigation.
