On Saturday, the parade was followed by children’s activities, a bounce house and Haunted History tours centered around the Boothbay Commons.
A pick-up band, quickly named “The Commoners” entertained the gathered visitors and residents on Saturday afternoon. Musicians Scott Elliot, “Dickie Doo” Hollis,
Gabe Tonin, and Chris Gagne offered classic rock that had people dancing.
One couple, Jana and Dennis Root, from Mason City, Iowa, happened on the event as they were passing by. The couple stopped to listen and stayed to dance. “We were
just heading to lunch and the sound of this band make us stop,” Dennis Root said.
The couple, on their first visit to the area, found Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor enchanting. “We thought it would be hard to get around, but everyone is so polite
and considerate,” said Jana Root. “It is absolutely charming here.”
The 250th anniversary party continued into Saturday with a parade, followed by a pig roast Saturday night. The grand finale of the party was a band concert by the
U.S. Navy Show Band at Ocean Point Marina on Sunday night, followed by a fireworks display over the water.
