Waldoboro-based Borealis Breads opens its new location on Dec. 17 located at 182 Ocean Avenue near Back Cove in Portland. Governor John Baldacci is scheduled to attend the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony at the new bistro and bakery at 10 a.m. and praise the creation of 18 full and part time jobs.
Newcastle Inn former chef Josh DeGroot is head chef at the 35-seat bakery. The menu will feature locally grown Maine products and ingredients.
Borealis Bread’s new bistro will be open Mon.-Thurs., 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Owner Jim Amaral founded Borealis Breads in Waldoboro over 15 years ago and was found at the Portland Public Market, and is featured on Forest Avenue’s Hannaford Bros. Supermarket in Portland.
