Two Lincoln County men are in custody and facing a variety of charges including kidnapping, terrorizing and criminal restraint as the result of a local investigation.
According to a press statement issued by Waldoboro Police Chief William Labombarde, Edwin Duquette, age 43, of Flanders Corner Rd., Waldoboro and Brian Cookson, age 43, East Pond Rd., Nobleboro, were arrested as a result of a multi agency investigation including the Waldoboro Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Maine State Police, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, FBI and Nashua, NH Police Department.
According to Labombarde, on Jan. 19 the Waldoboro Police Department received information from the FBI that a 28-year-old, East Bridgewater, Mass. man was allegedly being held at a residence on Flanders Corner Rd. in Waldoboro. Information received by the Waldoboro Police and the FBI stated the man was allegedly being held as the result of an apparent drug deal gone bad, in Nashua, N.H.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. Jan. 19, Waldoboro Police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detectives took Duquette into custody following a traffic stop on Orffs Corner Rd. in Waldoboro. The stop was initiated when Duquette attempted to leave his residence with the alleged victim.
Duquette was placed under arrest and charged with criminal restraint (class C) and terrorizing (class D). He was later transported to the Two Bridges Jail where bail was set at $5,000 cash.
A subsequent search of Duquette’s residence and business stemming from the kidnapping investigation resulted in the collection of additional evidence, including approximately 10 lbs. of marijuana with a street value of approximately $10,000 and 13 firearms with ammunition.
Cookson was arrested Jan. 20 at the Two Bridges Jail where he surrendered himself to Chief Labombarde Jan. 20. Cookson was charged with kidnapping (class A), and terrorizing (class D). Bail was set for Cookson at $5,000 cash.
According to Labombarde, the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests, as well as, additional State or Federal charges are expected.
