Former Great Salt Bay Community School teacher Peter Simonds, 44, of Nobleboro was indicted in Superior Court on nine counts of unlawful sexual contact, and on 13 counts of unlawful sexual touching while teaching at the Damariscotta elementary school.
According to the Lincoln County Superior Court clerk, Simonds is scheduled for arraignment Aug. 26 at 8:30 a.m. in Lincoln County Superior Court.
In the indictment handed down, three victims were cited under Unlawful Sexual Contact and Unlawful Sexual Touching, and four other victims were cited under Unlawful Sexual Touching only.
Unlawful Sexual Contact is a Class B crime and Unlawful Sexual Touching is a Class D crime. Under Maine law, the sentence for Class B crime under sexual battery is up to 10 years in prison per count, and for Class D crime under sexual battery is up to one year in jail per count.
