House and Senate leaders this morning expressed optimism that they might be able to enact the 2009 Emergency Supplemental Budget by the end of the day.
With a major snow storm expected Wednesday, both bodies scheduled an extra session this evening to deal with the budget bill and any amendments that are submitted before today’s 1 p.m. deadline. There was talk of canceling Wednesday’s session.
Passage of the budget depends largely on the number of amendments submitted and politicians from both parties said some are expected.
The Senate was set to reconvene at 4 p.m. and the House at 4:30 p.m.
“It depends on how quickly the House can do its work,” said Sen. Majority Leader Philip Bartlett (D-Gorham). “That might be wildly optimistic, but we’ll see.”
