An investigation into drug trafficking at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset has resulted in the arrest of an Episcopal priest.
The Very Rev. Stephen Foote, 70, Bremen, was charged with trafficking in prison contraband, a Class C crime following his arrest Nov. 1.
Foote is currently the rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Augusta.
According to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Foote, Theriault Patten, 25, of Bremen, and Adam Shawley, 27, of Newport, were all arrested following a joint investigation by the LCSO, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Two Bridges Regional Jail.
Foote, 70, has since been released on bail. Patten and Shawley face Class D charges of trafficking in prison contraband and are both already in custody.
