The Bremen Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Sept. 16 to initiate the process of creating an ordinance to allow voters to remove selectmen they feel are not serving the town.
Called a recall ordinance, the town plans hold a public hearing Oct. 7 to discuss the issue. Selectmen said they hope it will be ready in time for the November ballot.
Because Bremen has no town charter, removal of a selectmen must be governed by town ordinance, and currently there is no such ordinance on the books, said resident Hank Nevins, who brought the issue to the selectmen’s attention.
“I think voters should absolutely be able to do that,” said Selectman Patrick Ginnaty.
