Darren B. Maxcy, 42, of Bristol, is in satisfactory condition at Maine Medical Center after sustaining injuries in a single-vehicle accident in Newcastle Dec. 22.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Day said he believes Maxcy to be in stable condition; more precise information about the nature and severity of his injuries was not available.
Maxcy was driving a 1998 Honda Accord north on Rt. 1 between the Sherman Marsh rest area and Lynch Road at about 4:45 p.m. The vehicle crossed the opposite lane and left the travel way, spinning, striking a guardrail with the passenger’s side and continuing down an embankment.
Maxcy was semiconscious at the scene. First responders from the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service transported him to Miles Memorial Hospital, where he was alert and speaking with medical staff, Day said. He was later transferred by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident and whether alcohol or speed were factors.
The Newcastle Fire Dept. also responded to the scene.
