A man who was burned near a campfire in Whitefield May 27 has been released from the hospital and has returned home, according to a rescue official.
The incident occurred off of Chamberlain Brook Lane when the victim’s campfire suddenly flared up, according to Whitefield Rescue Chief Lynn Talacko.
According to Talacko, the victim is a 20-year-old male. Talacko declined to identify the man by name, citing confidentiality rules.
Talacko said the man suffered mostly first-degree burns to his head and arms. Talacko said some of the burns were more serious second degree burns. He was particularly worried about damage to the victim’s airway suffered from the heat blast, which was the primary reason that a Life Flight helicopter was summoned.
“The gentleman was very fortunate, very lucky,” Talacko said. “This could have been much worse.”
