Due to an under assessment, Central Maine Power will pay an additional $7,898.08 in taxes to the town of Wiscasset.
The announcement came during a July 5 Wiscasset Board of Selectmen from town assessor’s agent Sue Varney after a state auditor discovered the error recently.
“It’s not a good thing to have happen but it’s a good thing to find out,” said Varney.
The $533,654 under assessment involved CMP’s transmission lines.
Varney said she had contacted the company and alerted them of a supplemental tax bill “coming their way.”
In other business, the board appointed three individuals as Senior Center Trustees and approved Selectman Pamela Dunning as a representative to the Investment Advisory Committee.
The brief meeting concluded with Selectman David Nichols resigning his post as board liaison for the ongoing issue of Whites Island.
The Wiscasset Board of Selectmen will next meet on July 19 at 7 p.m.
