The U.S. Coast Guard is currently responding to a distress call on the eastern side of Monhegan Island.
USCC Chief Kris Demetros said preliminary information indicates at least one person has been washed into the water. Three others remain trapped in the surf area.
The Coast Guard is responding with a small boat dispatched from the Boothbay Harbor station. As of 1:45 p.m. the boat is expected to arrive on scene in approximately 45 minutes, Demetros said.
Units from Monhegan Fire Dept. and Lincoln County are said to be involved in the rescue attempt, Demetros said.
More information will be posted on The Lincoln County News website as it becomes available.
