An Augusta-based company that owns 10 pharmacies in Maine will take over the former Waltz Pharmacy location at 5 Friendship St. in Waldoboro.
Clinical Pharmacist Amelia Arnold of Community Pharmacies said her company hoped to reopen the store in early January, once licensing has been completed and the pharmacy is set up. The store’s new name will be Community Pharmacy of Waldoboro.
“Our company’s mission is to provide this service in small towns across Maine,” Arnold said Dec. 3.
She confirmed an announcement at the Community Pharmacies website which states the staff at the Waldoboro store will include pharmacists Brandon Archibald, currently employed at the Community Pharmacies Gorham location, and Ted Wooster, a former Waltz employee and a selectman in Waldoboro.
Wooster and his wife own the building at 5 Friendship St.
Arnold said Archibald has visited the Waldoboro store and is “excited about the town and its culture.” She said he is looking forward to serving a community that needs a pharmacy.
Waldoboro officials were pleased with the announcement.
“The stars just aligned properly,” Waldoboro Planning and Development Director Bill Najpauer said Dec. 2.
All in-state prescriptions at Community Pharmacies locations are mailed free of charge. Arnold said the Waldoboro store will also deliver prescriptions, but was not sure if that service would take place daily or less frequently.
“We like to take care of our customers and get them the medicines,” she said. “Especially with the Maine winters.”
Community Pharmacies also offers customized prescription compounding that allows pharmacists to add flavors to prescriptions and adjust dosage forms to meet individual needs. The latter service is also used to fill prescriptions for pets.
Community Pharmacies provide diabetic and ostomy supplies as well as nebulizer drugs, anti-cancer drugs and transplant drugs. Some also offer health and beauty aids, first aid products and durable medical equipment items including crutches, walkers and wheelchairs.
“This one will hopefully have a complete lineup of whatever people will need,” Arnold said..
The chain accepts Medicare D traditional and Medicare D complete plans and most major third party prescription plans, including AdvancePCS, Aetna, Anthem, Argus Health, Caremark, Express, Medco Health, Member health, Prescription Solutions, Walgreen Health and all state of Maine Drug prescription programs including MaineRx Plus.
The company also offers vaccine clinics, consultations for those planning overseas travel, health screenings and one-on-one or group consultation services.
Community Pharmacies’ president and chief executive officer is former Maine House minority leader Joe Bruno.
Hours at the Waldoboro store will be Mon. – Fri. from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sat. from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The store will be closed Sundays.
