Damariscotta Fire Chief Neil Genthner will step down Tues., Jan. 8, 2013, after two stints and a total of 10 years leading the volunteer fire department.
“It has been a great pleasure leading such a talented group of volunteer professionals each and every day,” Genthner wrote in a Dec. 13 letter to the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen and Damariscotta Town Manager Matt Lutkus.
“I am very proud to have been the leader of such a great organization and will be equally as proud to remain a member of such an organization,” the letter said.
The members of the Damariscotta Fire Dept. and the nonprofit Massasoit Engine Co. will elect a chief to succeed Genthner at the department’s annual meeting Jan. 8.
Genthner said he would work with the next chief to ensure a seamless transition.
Genthner is a facilities manager for Lincoln County Healthcare. He also works as a reserve patrol officer for the Damariscotta Police Dept. and a reserve deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
