Damariscotta Selectman Ed Stelzer, a retired marine architect and businessman, resigned from the board Tuesday.
“I just have not felt good lately. I have been doing too much,” he said.
In his official resignation letter to town officials, Stelzer cited ill health as the reason for his action.
“I enjoyed my term on the board and appreciate all those who voted for me,” he said.
Stelzer was elected to the board in June 2008. He worked for 40 years as a U.S. Navy engineer and naval architect spending 27 years as the naval supervisor at the Bath Iron Works. He was also a trustee of Lincoln Academy and served as a selectman in Bremen.
A replacement for Stelzer will be elected at a special town meeting on July 28. Persons seeking to run for his seat will be able to obtain nomination papers in July.
Select board chairman Richard McLean said the board accepted his resignation “with regret.”
In other action the selectmen heard Dana Knapp of Concord Coach Lines and business owners say parking arrangements for the coastal service are working out just fine.
Knapp said drivers of southbound coaches are able to pull on the sidewalk near the Skidompha library to pick up passengers to avoid impeding traffic on Main Street.
McLean and Selectman Josh Pinkham agreed to ask the town road commissioner to see if there is a way to grind down the curbing to make it easier for the drivers to pull on to the sidewalk to pick up passengers.
