The Maine Dept. of Transportation will monitor the level of the Medomak River in Waldoboro. If it rises high enough, closure of the Rt. 1 bridge over the river will be explored.
Concerns have arisen from the way the river is scouring the riverbed under the bridge, near the intersection of Rt. 1 and Rt. 32. DOT has placed a two-toned placard on the bridge. If the water reaches the red section of the placard, DOT will explore possible closure.
If the bridge is closed, all Rt. 1 traffic through Waldoboro will be rerouted down Old Route 1, through the downtown village, officials said.
For the time being, the Medomak River is well below the red level of the placard, but some in town said the water in spring sometimes climbs as high as the red mark.
