June 16 marks an incredible milestone for Dr. Stephen Reed of Wiscasset. Reed will celebrate his 35-year running streak, by running 35 miles.
Reed has run a minimum of three miles a day, every day for the past 35 years. No matter what Mother Nature dished out, whether it be sleet, snow, rain, driving cold, or boiling heat, Reed has hit the road for his daily devotional run.
Some might say that Reed is incredibly dedicated to persevere through all kinds of weather, illness, and minor injuries for 35 years, but Reed once said his running streak has become an “addiction.”
“I’m a pretty lucky guy, I haven’t had anything happen to me,” to spoil the streak, Reed said. “I hope to keep the luck going,” Reed added of shooting for 40 years.
Reed received a congratulatory letter and medallion from the United States Running Streak Association (USRSA).
“To say this (35 year streak) doesn’t mean anything to me would be a hoax. I’ve been lucky,” Reed added.
Reed has run 22 consecutive Boston Marathons, and has run 52 marathons total.
