A traffic accident on Rt. 1 in Edgecomb sent a local man to the hospital and temporarily slowed traffic Monday afternoon.
According to a preliminary report form the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred as Christopher Cope, 20, of Dresden was attempting to make a left hand turn into the former Mary’s Pop In business on Rt. 1 around 3:15 p.m.
Cope, who was operating a northbound 2001 Chevrolet Impala sedan, failed to observe an oncoming southbound 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Jason Northrop, 34, Edgecomb, and struck the motorcycle in the course of making his turn, according to the LCSO.
Northrop suffered severe leg injuries at the scene and was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Cope was not injured.
The Harley Davidson was totaled, according to the LCSO. The Impala suffered front-end damage.
Units from Wiscasset Fire and Edgecomb Fire Dept., Wiscasset EMS and Northeast EMS service all responded to the scene. No charges are expected, according to the LCSO.
