A fire that started in a tractor damaged two tractors and a garage at Northeast Transport Inc. on Route 1 in Waldoboro Sunday, Feb. 22.
There were no injuries, Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer said. No one was in the garage when the fire started.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate and attempt to determine the cause, “but there’s nothing suspicious at this time,” Smeltzer said.
The tractor where the fire started “appears to be” a total loss, Smeltzer said. The garage sustained significant damage. “It’s all heat and smoke damage,” he said. “All the fire damage was contained to the truck.”
The tractor was inside the garage when the fire started, Smeltzer said. It was towed out by a second tractor, which also appeared damaged.
Lincoln County Communications paged the Waldoboro Fire Department to respond to an alarm at 3200 Atlantic Highway (Route 1) at 10:42 a.m.
“We were notified through the alarm company,” Smeltzer said. “It came in as a heat detector.” Heavy black smoke was visible when firefighters arrived, and they immediately called for help from neighboring departments.
The Friendship, Jefferson, Nobleboro, Union, and Warren fire departments responded to the scene. The Bremen Fire Department covered the Waldoboro station and the Bristol Fire Department covered the Bremen station.
