Governor Paul R. LePage today ordered all U.S. and Maine flags statewide to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of a deadly shooting Jan. 8, in Tucson, Ariz.
On Saturday, a gunman opened fire at a constituent event held by U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, killing six people and wounding 14 others. Rep. Giffords, who police say was targeted for assassination, was critically wounded.
Killed were U.S. District Judge John Roll, 63; Gabe Zimmerman, 30; Dorothy Morris, 76; Dorwin Stoddard, 76; Phyllis Scheck, 79; and Christina Taylor Greene, 9.
President Barack Obama ordered all U.S. flags lowered and asked all Americans to observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. today.
Flags should remain at half-staff through sunset on Fri., Jan. 14.
