The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing at its Wednesday, Nov. 18 meeting to discuss an application for a liquor license from the incoming owner of the Maine Coast Book Shop and Café.
Float LLC, doing business as the Maine Coast Book Shop and Café, submitted an application for a restaurant license with a privilege to serve wine and beer. Jeff Curtis and Maria Boord, of Boothbay Harbor, submitted the application Nov. 3.
Curtis is in the process of purchasing the Maine Coast Book Shop and Café from longtime owner Susan Porter, according to an Oct. 14 announcement by the bookstore. Curtis owns Sherman’s Books, which has five locations in Bar Harbor, Boothbay Harbor, Camden, Freeport, and Portland.
Boord, Curtis’ life partner, will run the café. According to a press release from the bookshop, Boord has extensive experience in food service, including stints as head chef at the Squire Tarbox Inn, of Westport Island; and Maria’s Café, of New Harbor. This will be the first café in the Sherman’s chain.
According to the application, neither Curtis nor Boord have formerly held a liquor license in Maine.
The public hearing will take place before the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen meeting at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18. The selectmen will vote on the application during the meeting.
