A 17-year-old male juvenile from Bristol faces aggravated assault and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon charges for allegedly running over a Damariscotta man in Damariscotta Thursday night, July 23.
The juvenile was driving a Mini Cooper through Damariscotta’s back parking lot when he saw Jonathan W. Snell, 22, of Damariscotta, who motioned for the juvenile to call him, according to Damariscotta Police Officer Kyle Sylvester.
The juvenile made a circuit of the parking lot, returned to Snell’s location, and stopped, according to Sylvester. Snell approached the vehicle and the vehicle “accelerated, turned toward Snell, and ran him over,” Sylvester said.
“The tires went over (Snell),” Sylvester said. “He went underneath the car.” The juvenile then left the scene.
Lincoln County Communications dispatched police at about 9:50 p.m., according to Sylvester. The Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service transported Snell to LincolnHealth – Miles Campus, where he was treated and released.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office located the juvenile and brought him to the Damariscotta Police Department. Sylvester arrested him the same night and transported him to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
The juvenile faces charges of class B aggravated assault and class C reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, both felonies; and class E driving to endanger, a misdemeanor.
The juvenile and Snell apparently had an ongoing dispute about an ex-girlfriend, according to Sylvester.
