The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested one man and is looking for two others in connection with the recent burglary of The Lincoln County Publishing Company.
A burglar or burglars broke into the business the night of Aug. 26-27, stealing equipment and returnable cans from Standpipe Redemption, an adjacent tenant in the Newcastle building.
The building, located at 116 Mills Road in Newcastle, headquarters The Lincoln County News and rents space to Standpipe Redemption.
The day after the discovery of the burglary, LCSO personnel executed a search warrant at 241 Rt. 1 in Damariscotta, the residence of Charles “C.J.” Scavetta.
LCSO recovered a camera and computers belonging to The Lincoln County News and evidence related to the burglary of Standpipe Redemption.
Chad L. Legere, 28, was the only person at the residence at the time. Legere faces a felony charge of receiving stolen property and might face a burglary charge, depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation, Detective Ronald Rollins said.
One of the individuals at large will also face charges, while the other might face charges depending on the outcome of the investigation, he said.
The burglar or burglars stole two new Dell Latitude laptops and a Nikon D-1H camera with a spare lens from the newspaper and 50 large bags of bottles from the redemption center.
The Lincoln County News estimates the value of the camera and lenses at $5000 and the value of the laptops at $1800.
Standpipe Redemption places the retail value of the bags, which contain 324 cans apiece, at $27.54 each, for a total value of $1377. Standpipe pays $16.20 to fill each bag, so the total loss to the center was $2187.
