The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested a South Bristol lobsterman Nov. 30 after he allegedly threatened another lobsterman with a shotgun, firing a single round.
Gregory Lawson, 53, faces charges of reckless conduct with a firearm and terrorizing.
The round didn’t hit anybody and it’s unclear whether Lawson intended to shoot the other man, Zachary Geyer. Lawson fired the gun “close enough… that he could have injured” Geyer, LCSO Lt. Rand Maker said.
The incident took place at 9:28 a.m. at Osier’s Wharf in downtown South Bristol.
Lawson left the scene, but was arrested at gunpoint while driving past Osier’s Wharf. He was released later the same day on $5000 unsecured bail.
Geyer and Lawson are commercial lobstermen based out of Osier’s Wharf and the incident appears to have its roots in a lobster gear-related conflict, Maker said.
LCSO recovered the shotgun, which Maker described as a single-barrel, pump-action 20-gauge shotgun.
Geyer declined comment.
David Osier, the owner of Osier’s Wharf, declined comment, citing his business relationship with both men.
