Under a new Maine law that went into effect last year, towns and school districts must now “validate” budgets approved by town and district meetings by approving them at the polls in each individual town.
Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor residents will both vote on June 8 at the Boothbay Region Elementary School between 9 a.m. 6- p.m.
For the towns of the newly formed Central Lincoln County School System (AOS No. 93, the former School Union 74, and MSAD 40, RSU #12) this voting will occur on Tues., June 9.
Voters will be asked to validate the budgets of their respective school departments as well as the budget for the general and special education administration for AOS No. 93 and MSAD 40.
“This process is new and still unfamiliar to many voters, but I hope that voters will take a few minutes to go the voting place in their towns to cast their ballots,” said Union 74 Supt. Robert Bouchard.
Bouchard noted that the budgets approved at town and district meetings are available for viewing at www.schoolunion74.org.
