The public is encouraged to attend and offer comment when the Maine Yankee Community Advisory Panel host a meeting of the Transportation and Storage Subcommittee of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future Tues., Aug. 10 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Chewonki Center for Environmental Education in Wiscasset.
At the direction of President Obama, Department of Energy Secretary Chu formed the Commission “to conduct a comprehensive review of policies for managing used nuclear fuel and recommend a new plan.”
The Transportation and Storage subcommittee was established to address the question: “Should the US change the way in which it is storing used nuclear fuel and high level waste while one or more final disposal locations are established?”
In March the Maine Yankee CAP invited the Blue Ribbon Commission to come to Wiscasset to learn first hand about a decommissioned former nuclear power plant storing used nuclear fuel. The CAP thanks the Transportation and Storage subcommittee for accepting its invitation.
The public is encouraged to attend this important meeting. For more information about the CAP or Maine Yankee please call Eric Howes at 207-577-1089 or go to http://www.maineyankee.com/. For more information on the Blue Ribbon Commission and the August 10 meeting go to http://brc.gov/.
