Responding to concerns that MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital trustees are considering shutting down Lincoln County’s only natal unit, hospital spokesperson John Martins said no such decision is being considered at this time.
The Lincoln County News has fielded a variety of queries in recent weeks expressing concerns a decision to close the family birth center obstetrics and gynecology department in Damariscotta was either made or imminent.
MaineHealth officials routinely evaluate the hospital’s services looking for efficiencies, Martins said.
“We’re committed to caring for families in our community, and we regularly review the services offered at MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital to assess long-term sustainability,” Martins said. “At this time, no decision has been made about any changes to our prenatal, birthing, or perinatal services at the hospital.”
