A dump truck hauling an excavator on a trailer went off the side of Route 1 in Edgecomb the morning of Jan. 30 and the driver was complaining of rib pain, according to Edgecomb Fire Chief Roy Potter.
Potter said the driver, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, was complaining of rib pain where his seatbelt crossed his chest.
The cause of the accident is not yet known, but Potter said the driver had said he thinks he had blacked out.
The man was being treated by Wiscasset EMS in preparation for transport for his injuries, Potter said at about 10:20 a.m.
The southbound truck and trailer appeared to have left the roadway just south of The Pioneer Motel and came to rest in a deep depression.
The front end of the dump truck had sustained visible damage, and the trailer’s frame appear to have twisted during the accident.
Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident.
