A two-vehicle crash in Dresden late Tuesday morning resulted in the death of one of the drivers at the intersection of Patterson and Cedar Grove Roads.
Dresden first responders and firemen had to extricate Joseph Langlais, 81, of Winthrop from the compact car he was driving and Northeast Ambulance personnel and Lincoln County deputies attempted to resuscitate him to no avail.
Lincoln County deputies responded to the scene of the accident, and after a preliminary investigation have determined Langlais at the time of the crash was operating a 2006 Chrysler four-door southbound on Cedar Grove Road. (Rt. 128). He failed to stop at a stop sign posted at the intersection, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
While Langlais was driving through the intersection, his car was struck by a 1994 Dodge pickup truck going west on Patterson Road. (Rt. 197) driven by Henry Benner, 53, of Northport.
Benner’s wife Pamela Benner, 48, who accompanied him in the pickup, went by Northeast Ambulance from the scene to Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick with non-life threatening face and leg injuries. Benner himself reported no injuries resulting from the crash.
Investigators believe all three people involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Exact cause of the Langlais’ death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.
While reconstructing the scene, LCSO deputies obtained blood samples from all three people. Findings from the blood samples and reconstruction will take several weeks according to the Sheriff’s Office, which considers any criminal charges unlikely.
Deputies remained at the scene for about three hours assisted by Northeast Ambulance, and Dresden Fire and Rescue.
