Twenty members of Shapers, a health club for body and mind, each contributed $10 so that the group could purchase two $10,000 raffle tickets.
Lillian Garcia, one of Shapers’ three partners said, “all 20 of us will be included in the winnings. Of course I’m assuming that one of our tickets will be the winner.”
“$10,000 raffle tickets are selling well but there are still plenty available,” said project director Deb Wilson. “We’re very excited to see a group like the members of Shapers purchase a ticket together – it’s a buying option for groups rather than purchasing a single ticket.”
Shapers is a key club – a fitness club where members each get a key and can work out on their own schedule. The facility is well-stocked with equipment for weight training as well as aerobic workouts but it’s the friendly atmosphere that really sets Shapers apart.
Lil Garcia, a partner, welcomes new members and is available on site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Several classes are scheduled each week and personal training is available.
“Our members range in age from 22 to 87,” said another Shapers partner, Jeanne Davis. “It’s a special place where people work out in a friendly setting.”
As for the $10,000 raffle – only 300 tickets will be sold in the raffle sponsored by the Nobleboro Historical Society to benefit the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration. Tickets cost $100 each – the winner (or winners) receives $10,000 and the fish ladder restoration receives $20,000.
Raffle tickets can be purchased online at http://www.damariscottamills.org in the support us section – request raffle ticket in comments, or from members of the Nobleboro Historical Society.
Raffle brochures are available at many local businesses, including the Louis Doe Home Center, Maine Coast Book Shop, Supplies Unlimited, Mike’s Place, the Village Store, Alewife Fabrics, Skidompha Library, Damariscotta River Grill, Rising Tide, and Hilltop Stop.
Brochures can be mailed in to purchase a ticket. The drawing will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 during the fish ladder’s fall soup and chowder festival.
