The Anchor Inn Restaurant (www.anchorinnrestaurant.com), a Midcoast Maine favorite since its 1987 launch, will open for the season on Fri., May 7, according to chef Rick Hirsch and general manager Jean Kerrigan. Opening weekend at the restaurant’s scenic, Round Pond location will kick off with dinner only on Fri., May 7 and Sat., May 8, and Mother’s Day Sun., May 9 from noon to 7:30 p.m.
“When warm weather hits, the guests we host each year are ready to head out to Anchor Inn – it’s a real mark of spring for them as well as for our staff,” Kerrigan said. “We’re all looking forward to hosting old and new friends in our 23rd year.”
The restaurant’s annual Mother’s Day celebration on May 9 will honor Moms dining at the restaurant with a complimentary dessert. The dinner menu, which will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., will feature the Inn’s always-in-demand fresh seafood options, including Maine lobster stew, crab cakes, and scallop peepers – a tempting appetizer of barbeque marinated sea scallops wrapped in bacon and broiled – as well as local Pemaquid Oysters from nearby Damariscotta River.
The day’s offerings also will include house specialties, such as the restaurant’s favorite pasta, steak, and chicken entrées.
Chef Hirsch, recently named 2010 Chef of the Year by the Maine Restaurant Association, is known for his use of fresh, local ingredients and savory seafood dishes. His menu at Anchor Inn features traditional Maine fare alongside his creative twists on salads, pasta, steak, chicken and sandwiches, as well as locally caught Muscongus Bay lobsters served with traditional side items.
The Anchor Inn is a renowned destination in the spring and summer for locals and returning seasonal visitors who seek its top-notch, casual cuisine; spacious outdoor deck; and enticing views of Round Pond Harbor.
