Sheriff’s officers are searching for a New Harbor retiree who is missing after failing to return home after visiting the Veterans Hospital at Togus in Augusta late Tuesday.
Ellen Rice, 73, said her husband, Merrill Rice, 84, drove his silver Chevy pick up truck to Togus on Tuesday but did not return home.
“He drove to Togus to catch the van to Boston where he had an appointment at a clinic for a little cancer on his ear. He should have been home by nine last evening,” she said.
“I can’t imagine him not coming home. He’s never done nothing like this before. He never misses a meal,” she said.
Mrs. Rice said she called the sheriff’s department requesting a search for her husband.
Rice is driving his silver/grey 2000 Chevrolet King Cab with Purple Heart Maine license number 5005.
“He was in World War II. He was injured when a mine exploded and shrapnel went in his leg and arm,” she said.
“I am getting worried. Somebody better find him,” she said.
If anyone has information about Rice’s whereabouts, please call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 82-6576
