Larry Russell of Dyer’s Valley Farm in Newcastle is offering a reward of one load of manure for information regarding the missing Cowshit Corner sign.
The approximately 20-foot-tall steel sign, once a Gulf sign, has been missing since someone cut the bolts at the base of the sign with a welding torch during the night of July 28-29. Whoever cut it down would have needed a trailer to move it, Russell said.
Russell and others have a plan in the works to replace the locally famous sign at the corner of Jones Woods Road and North Newcastle Road. The new sign will have a different design.
“It’s a landmark,” said Mark Fenderson, who works at the farm.
The businesses and residents of the neighborhood use the sign to give directions more than any road name, Russell said.
Russell asks anyone with information to call his cellphone at 207-504-0291.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the theft, Russell said. Deputy Chad Gilbert is the investigating officer. Gilbert could not be reached for comment.
