The Newcastle select board set the tax rate for the coming year at $14.60 per $1000 of assessed valuation.
The action was voted upon Monday.
“This means that the property owners can compute their tax bill by multiplying their assessed valuation times $14.60,” said Ron Grenier, the town administrator.
The coming year’s property tax rate is up by 7 percent. Last year’s bill was $13.60, he said.
The rate is based upon a total of $3,559,849 budgeted by the municipality, the schools and the county.
Of that, the schools require more than 70 percent of the total or $2.445 million. The municipality is $1.3 million cent while $315,000 has been allocated as Newcastle’s share of the county tax bill, he said.
