Della Parker thinks the Lobster Cabin’s location on Rt. 1 in Newcastle will be a good chance to sell some of the fresh caught Pemaquid Lobsters and other goodies to tourists and locals.
“We will have goods from local providers, things that others may not carry, and we will pack them for shipping too,” she said.
The tiny shop with the “up-to camp” feel is part of a growing movement to market unique products from lesser known and local producers.
“For instance, we will have lobsters from the Pemaquid Fisherman’s Co-op, Shaker Pond ice cream from Sabbathday Lake, Glen Rock Spring Water and frozen crab cakes. I could go on and on. I just love to talk about this stuff,” she said.
For the traveler, she has a special treat.
“Some airlines don’t want you to ship stuff cooled with frozen gelpacks,” she said. “So we suggest you buy a pound or two of frozen Maine shrimp and we will pack your lobsters using the shrimp to keep them cool.”
The Lobster Cabin is located at 549 Rt. 1 just north of Newcastle Chrysler Auto Sales. It is open Monday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
