Despite the arrest of two Biddeford men in connection with a string of burglaries throughout the Midcoast region, there are no new developments in the break-ins at Hunter’s Breakfast and the Sea Basket Restaurant in Wiscasset, reported the morning of Sept. 23.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Ron Rollins, there are no updates related to the burglaries in Wiscasset as of Sept. 28.
The recently arrested Biddeford men have been connected to the break-in at the Yellowfront Grocery in Damariscotta on Aug. 23, according to Damariscotta police.
However, the crime is unconnected to the reported break-ins in Wiscasset, Rollins said.
Hunter’s Breakfast, at 560 Gardiner Rd., reported a theft of approximately $320 at 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 23, according to the Lincoln County Communications Center’s dispatch log. The Sea Basket Restaurant, at 303 Bath Rd., reported a break-in at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 23.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hunter’s Breakfast and the Wiscasset Police Department responded to the Sea Basket Restaurant, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said.
Due to the likelihood the burglaries are related, they were turned over to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation, Cline said. According to Cline, the break-ins occurred between the time the restaurants closed Sept. 22 and opened the morning of Sept. 23.
The break-ins did not affect the restaurants’ ability to conduct business. Both the Sea Basket Restaurant and Hunter’s Breakfast were able to open and operate as usual, restaurant personnel said.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported two burglaries in Union between 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Sept. 24 at the Union True Value and Come Spring Café. According to the Bangor Daily News, two break-ins at residences were also reported in Union on Sept. 24.
The Knox and Lincoln sheriff’s offices have not been in contact about the burglaries and it is unknown if there is a connection, Rollins said.
Anyone with information about the break-ins in Wiscasset is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 882-7332.
