A Nobleboro man faces felony burglary and theft charges after allegedly breaking into a Damariscotta dentist’s office to steal drugs.
Joshua H. Oliver, 33, also allegedly burglarized a Bristol home, stole a car in Bremen and stole shingles from a Waldoboro lumberyard, all in a span of six days, according to court documents.
A Lincoln County grand jury indicted Oliver on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and drug possession Dec. 9-10.
Oliver allegedly stole “baby goods,” clothes and a sex toy from the Bristol residence Sept. 12, according to the indictment.
He allegedly stole a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta in Bremen around 2:30 a.m. Sept. 15 and returned the vehicle about 30-45 minutes later, according to a statement by the owner of the car.
Oliver apologized to the man and said he took the car because he had capsized a skiff and needed to get dry clothes, according to the statement.
“I told him he should have knocked on my door and asked and I would have helped him,” the owner said in his statement.
The man told Oliver he had reported the theft, and Oliver ran away.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Beck arrived shortly thereafter and, after a brief search of the area, located Oliver on the shore nearby, according to an affidavit by Beck. Beck chased Oliver on foot along the shore, but Oliver ran into the woods and Beck lost sight of him.
The next day, Sept. 16, Oliver allegedly stole more than $1,000 of shingles from Storer Lumber in Waldoboro, according to the indictment. Nicole Lynn Anderson, 25, of Augusta, also faces a felony theft charge in that case.
The night of Sept. 16-17, Oliver allegedly burglarized the Damariscotta office of Dr. Joseph Griffin and stole a lockbox containing the drugs midazolam, morphine, Percocet and triazolam.
The evening of Sept. 18, Jason Pease, of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, conducted a bail check at Oliver’s residence. Oliver’s bail conditions from a previous arrest banned him from possessing firearms.
Pease, according to his affidavit, allegedly found a double-barreled shotgun under Oliver’s bed. While Pease was still at the residence, Oliver’s girlfriend arrived and allegedly handed Oliver a pack of cigarettes with oxycodone pills inside.
The girlfriend, Jennifer J. Rosa, 35, of Bremen, faces a felony drug-trafficking charge, as well as furnishing and possession charges.
Oliver was arrested for unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violation of condition of release. He has been at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset since. His bail is set at $10,000, $5,000, $2,500 and $100 in various cases.
About a month later, a criminal informant told authorities Oliver was responsible for the Damariscotta burglary, according to a statement by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Scott Hayden.
The sheriff’s office recovered the lockbox and charged Oliver with the burglary and theft Oct. 21.
Oliver faces one count each of Class B and C burglary, Class C stealing drugs, Class C theft by unauthorized taking, Class C unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and Class D criminal mischief, as well as two counts each of Class E theft by unauthorized taking and Class E violation of condition of release. He does not appear to have been charged with stealing the vehicle.
The maximum penalty for a Class B crime is 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. The maximum penalty for C, D and E crimes are five years in prison and $5,000, 364 days in jail and $2,000, and six months in jail and $1,000, respectively. Class B and C crimes are felonies; Class D and E crimes are misdemeanors.
