The Wiscasset RSU 12 Withdrawal Committee will be holding an informational meeting on Thursday, Dec. 6 as an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions of the committee and its educational consultants.
The committee will hopefully have the cost for Wiscasset to run a school district on its own to present at the meeting and it should be a “solid number,” said committee member Jeff Slack at their meeting on Nov. 29.
Chair Mary Myers said costs associated with contracts and transportation for the proposed school district are yet to be determined and will affect the operating costs after a successful withdrawal.
Educational consultants Norm Higgins and Raymond Poulin will be in attendance, she said.
Myers said a decision will be made on Dec. 6 whether or not the committee will attend a meeting with the RSU 12 ad hoc withdrawal committee and the RSU’s lawyers at Whitefield Elementary School on Dec. 10, a meeting Myers termed as “informational.”
The withdrawal committee has been working toward completing an agreement since Wiscasset voters authorized its formation on June 12. Based on an estimated time-line provided by RSU 12 officials, residents may not get to vote on a completed agreement until November 2012.
The informational meeting on Thursday, Dec. 6 will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Wiscasset Municipal Building.
