Three people were transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries today following a two car collision at the intersection of Rt. 1 and the Eddy Rd. in Edgecomb around 12:25 p.m. Rt. 1 was partially closed for nearly an hour during the rescue and crash investigation.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred as Peter Speth, 67, and his wife, of Peru, Ind., were traveling north across the Davey Bridge in a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The Speth vehicle collided in the northbound travel lane with a 1997 Plymouth sedan operated by Shannon Swope, 21, of Southport, as Swope pulled out of Eddy Rd.
The Swope vehicle rotated clockwise and came to rest in the middle of Rt. 1. The Speth vehicle crossed the southbound travel lane, went over an embankment and came to rest.
Normally, a guardrail is in place along the southbound shoulder of Rt. 1, however it had been removed due to the paving operation by Maine D.O.T.
Speth and his wife were transported by ambulance to Miles Hospital for treatment of minor, non-life threatening injuries. Swope refused transport by ambulance, however went by personal vehicle to the hospital.
Members of the Edgecomb Fire Dept., Wiscasset Fire and Rescue, Wiscasset Ambulance, Boothbay Region Ambulance and G&G Towing of Boothbay responded to the scene.
LCSO Sgt. Jason Nein was assisted at the scene by LCSO Reserve Deputy Jennifer Sherman. No charges are being contemplated.
