Peggy Aldrich, 70, and Raymond Thompson, 68, both of Whitinsville, Mass., were traveling in the area for a wedding, Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde said April 21.
The couple was headed northbound in a 2014 Mitsubishi when a southbound 2007 Dodge Caliber, operated by Edward Bean, 63, of Waldoboro, crossed the center line and struck their
car, according to a press release from Labombarde.
Emergency personnel were paged out to the scene at 1:24 p.m.
Aldrich and Thompson were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. Bean was transported by Waldoboro EMS to LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in Damariscotta for non-
life threatening injuries, but was subsequently transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Labombarde.
A call to Maine Medical Center for Bean’s status was not returned as of this posting.
No charges have been filed and the crash is still under investigation, but neither alcohol, drugs, speeding, nor driver distraction were factors, Labombarde said. The Lincoln
County Sheriff’s Office is reconstructing the accident, he said.
Waldoboro and Warren fire departments rerouted traffic around the accident via Old Route 1.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow this story and post more information as it becomes available.
