Waldoboro police are investigating allegations that may have led to a teacher’s resignation from Medomak Valley High School.
Police were at the school May 3, following allegations made May 2 to School Resource Officer Tom Hoepner. Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde said the teacher had resigned and was not at the school at that time.
“We’re investigating an allegation that was made at the high school,” Labombarde said May 7. “It is currently under investigation. I cannot nor will not divulge the nature of the investigation.”
Regional School Unit/Maine School Administrative District 40 Superintendent Susan Pratt would not describe the nature of the incident or give the name of the teacher involved. She sent The Lincoln County News copies of four letters from staff members that she depicted as “the resignations that have been received during the last month.” She said all four were accepted by the RSU/MSAD 40 Board of Directors at their May 2 meeting. “There is no other public information available to you at this time,” she wrote.
The single attachment comprised three letters dated in April and one dated May 1. The April letters were all from female teachers.
The one dated May 1 was from a male. While the typed letter gave the resignation as effective at the end of the school year, the last seven words were struck through and the date May 2, 2013 inserted and initialed by hand.
When asked for comment, MVHS Principal Harold Wilson said he would defer to the Superintendent.
