Maine St. Andrew’s Pipes & Drums will be the featured musical unit in the Giant Pumpkin Parade through Newcastle and Damariscotta on Sat., Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
The parade is a part of the weeklong Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta. Following the parade, at approximately 3 p.m., the band will perform a brief concert at the Newcastle Publick House. Come see and hear the band up close.
As well as performing their traditional Scottish pipe band repertoire, the band will be encouraging inquiries from those interested in learning to play the pipes or drums, as well as those with experience who wish to play in a pipe band setting. The band offers free quality instruction for those who wish to join.
This season Maine St. Andrew’s Pipes & Drums won third place in the Grade 5 category at the 2011 New Hampshire Scottish Arts Indoor Festival, first place at the 2011 Maine Highland Games, and third place and Most Improved in Grade 5 in the 2011 New Hampshire Highland Games.
The band tartan is the State of Maine Tartan, designed in 1964, and believed to be the oldest district tartan in the U.S.
Come to enjoy some pipe band music, learn about the pipes and drums and meet the band members. The band holds practices every Thursday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Brewer Armory, 133 Elm St. in Brewer. Anyone with an interest in learning the pipes or drums is encouraged to join.
