A woman suspected of passing counterfeit bills in Damariscotta and Wiscasset has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Forgery, a Class B crime, as well as Theft by Deception and Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs, Class D crimes.
The Boothbay Harbor Police Department arrested Morgan MacDonald, 25, of South China, on Sept. 29 and transported her to the Damariscotta Police Dept.
According to an affidavit by Officer Jennifer Mitkus of the Damariscotta Police Department, “[MacDonald] admitted knowledge that the $100 bills she had were counterfeit but stated she got them from someone else. [MacDonald] admitted to have [sic] Suboxene [sic] in her purse but couldn’t produce a prescription. [MacDonald] claimed the pills were prescribed by a doctor in Miami, Florida in 2009.”
Suboxone is a prescription medication used to treat opiate addiction.
According to another affidavit by Mitkus, the investigation stems from a Sept. 28 report of counterfeit bills at Don Foshay’s Discount Tire on the Biscay Road in Damariscotta.
According to the affidavit, MacDonald paid a $598 repair bill with six counterfeit $100 bills.
MacDonald was booked at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset Sept. 29. She was released Oct. 4 on $200 cash bail. Under her conditions of release, she must not use or possess alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, must submit to random searches and/or chemical tests for drug use and must not possess counterfeit money.
In addition, MacDonald must abide by the terms of a bail contract with Volunteers of America that requires her to attend substance abuse evaluation and follow treatment directives at Addiction Resource Center or an equivalent program.
MacDonald could not be reached for comment.
According to Damariscotta Police Chief Steven Drake, MacDonald is also suspected of passing counterfeit $20 bills in Wiscasset. The Wiscasset Police Department is cooperating in the investigation.
The Damariscotta Police Department, in cooperation with Florida authorities, is seeking Levi Dennison, MacDonald’s boyfriend, as a person of interest in the case, Drake said.
