A Department of Transportation crew re-striped the busy and sometimes dangerous intersection of Academy Hill Road, Main Street and Mills Road in Newcastle July 19.
The paint job appears to be an attempt to make the intersection easier for unfamiliar motorists to navigate.
It creates a turning lane for motorists traveling west on Main Street and turning right onto Mills Road or going up Academy Hill.
The Newcastle Board of Selectmen asked the DOT in April to place the intersection on its 2014-2015 capital projects list. Town Administrator David Bolling said the recent work will not affect that request.
